International Advocacy
Amplifying the voices of Russian-speaking LGBTQI+ immigrants on the global stage – from U.S. detention centers to the United Nations.
OURS IN THE USA represents the Russian-speaking LGBTQI+ community at the international level, documenting human rights violations and advocating for systemic change.
Through collaboration with the United Nations, human rights organizations, and advocacy partners, we bring real stories of persecution and migration into the global conversation.
Our work aims to ensure that LGBTQI+ migrants are not invisible – neither in their countries of origin nor in detention centers where their rights continue to be violated.
What We Do

Collaboration with the United Nations
In April 2025, OURS IN THE USA presented the Voice Behind Bars report to the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Russia, highlighting systemic violations of LGBTQI+ migrants’ rights in U.S. immigration detention.
The presentation included case studies, recommendations, and expert insights aimed at shaping international dialogue and policy change.
Our participation in UN consultations and advocacy networks allows us to represent those whose voices are often silenced — ensuring accountability and visibility at the highest level.
Get Involved
OURS IN THE USA believes that lasting change happens through partnership.
We actively collaborate with organizations, professionals, and institutions that share our mission to protect LGBTQI+ migrants and promote human rights worldwide.
We invite

Human rights organizations and NGOs
We work with human rights groups and nonprofits that share our mission to protect LGBTQI+ migrants and asylum seekers.
Together, we exchange data, co-author human rights reports, and organize advocacy campaigns addressing systemic discrimination.
Partnerships with NGOs allow us to reach more people in need and strengthen our collective voice on the global stage.

Attorneys and legal professionals
We collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and legal clinics nationwide to support LGBTQI+ asylum seekers and individuals in immigration detention.
Our team provides detailed expert reports, community verification letters, and advocacy materials for court cases.
By joining forces with legal professionals, we ensure every story is presented with both legal precision and human depth.

Media and journalists
We believe that visibility saves lives.
By working with independent media and journalists, we share real stories of LGBTQI+ refugees and expose human rights violations often ignored by mainstream outlets.
We provide verified case data, interviews, and expert commentary to help the public understand the realities faced by our community.

Government officials and policymakers
We engage with policymakers, city councils, and government agencies to advocate for inclusive and humane immigration policies.
Our organization contributes data, research, and community insights to shape fairer systems that respect human dignity and safety.
We also organize public dialogues and roundtables to bridge the gap between government and civil society.

International institutions
OURS IN THE USA actively collaborates with international bodies such as the United Nations, global NGOs, and human rights coalitions.
Through reports and public interventions, we bring attention to the persecution of LGBTQI+ people in Russia and the challenges faced by queer migrants in U.S. detention.
Together with global partners, we amplify voices that would otherwise remain unheard.

Artists, performers, and creative professionals
Art has the power to inspire empathy and change.
We collaborate with creative professionals — from visual artists and filmmakers to drag performers and musicians — to raise awareness through beauty, culture, and storytelling.
Through artistic advocacy, we make LGBTQI+ migration stories visible and celebrate resilience through self-expression.
